Cooler Temps Holding To More Of Late Spring Fishing Activity

Dennis Neitzke caught a nice 24 inch walleye while fishing with fishing guide Tom Neustrom.

This week, Tom Nuestrom, professional fishing guide, and fishing industry representative, shares that cooler temps are holding to more of late spring fishing activity. Grand Rapids, Minnesota has over 1,000 area lakes to fish for walleyes, northern, musky, trout, crappies, bluegills, sunfish, and bass! Make Grand Rapids, Minnesota your NEW Fishing Destination!

With cooler than normal temperatures, the fishing is holding to more of late spring action. Cooler water has held up the summer locations and shoreline locations for walleyes are still present. Soon they will be moving offshore to sunken islands and bars which is very common for this time of the year. There haven’t been any major bug hatches and they too are late. Walleyes are still reacting to jig and minnow, but leeches and crawlers on rigs are also producing walleyes on are lakes. Bowstring, Winnie, Pokegama, and Trout lakes are places with good walleye fishing.

Bass fishing has been very good and smallmouth bass are still on their beds on several lakes because of the cooler temperatures. Plastics, chatter baits and spinner baits have all been catching bass of both species. Lakes to try for good bass fishing are Pokegama, Rice, Trout, Loon, and Big Balsam. Panfish are coming off spawning and can be found on deep edges of weed beds. We are on the doorstep of great early summer fishing, so get out and enjoy what’s ahead.
