Grand Rapids Ice Fishing

Throughout the winter months, snowmobiles traverse the frozen lakes, bringing the dedicated outdoorsman to his ice house. The reward? A catch of hard-won fresh fish. The Grand Rapids area has some of the best ice fishing destinations, and has been referred to as an “Ice Fisherman’s Paradise” – with an abundance of interconnected lakes, creeks, and ponds perfect for fishing success.

ICE SAFETY

Regardless of how low the temperatures drop, you may encounter open water at any point in your ice fishing expeditions. Be aware of your surroundings, and continually test the depth – what appears to be safe, solid ice at one spot may be extremely thin and dangerous to walk on a few feet further on. (Beware in particular of dangerous currents and springs that can cause thin ice all winter long.)
