The Grand Rapids, Minnesota area has hundreds of thousands of acres that you can hike through mixed hardwood and pine forests to enjoy nature. Within these forests you will experience the sights of sounds of northwoods mammals and birds like deer, porcupines, squirrels, chipmunks, eagles, hawks, songbirds, ducks, geese and swans. These trails wrap around tamarack and cedar bogs, beautiful lakes and rivers. Experience getting deeper into the forests on well maintained, designated and mapped trails. Itasca County, the MN DNR, and the US Forest Service all work together to maintain these trails. A couple of off the beaten path hidden gems to consider are the Joyce Estates and the Lost Forty; both located in the Chippewa National Forest. Within the City limits of Grand Rapids we suggest Legion Trail that you can access through the City of Grand Rapids Parks ArcGIS Map. In addition to these locations, the North Country Trail runs through Grand Rapids. Much of the Minnesota trail is still being created, but the sections that have been created are from Hwy 6 in Remer to County Rd 17 in Cohasset, and then the hiking trail behind the North College campus. North Country Trail - Section Highway 6 to Bear Head Lake State Park The Arrowhead Chapter has members from the Remer, Grand Rapids, and Iron Range areas. You can be our newest member by joining NCTA Arrowhead Chapter! The Chapter has volunteer opportunities for building, maintaining, promoting, and interpreting the Trail in our area. We are currently building new trail segments near Grand Rapids. We host trail workdays and regular hikes and social events throughout the year.
