Day 1 Hiking in the Chippewa National Forest


For your first experience while on your Romantic Spring Getaway in Grand Rapids, Minnesota we suggest that you drive up the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway which offers scenic rolling hills and curvy corners that starts in Grand Rapids and ends 47 miles north in Effie, MN. Perfect for a slow drive to view the forests come to life in the Spring. The Byway runs between hundreds of lakes and mixed hardwood and pine forests.

MEAL (Lunch) You can grab a box meal from Spartan Deli inside the Central Square Mall (which is the corner where the Edge of the Wilderness Scenic Byway starts).

OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE #1: for a hike on the Suomi Trails, located in the Chippewa National Forest. There is something very special about hiking in the spring forests; hearing the songbirds chirping, the skuttle of the squirrels and chipmunks on the forest floor, and the crunch of the leaves of the occasional deer walking through the forest.

EXPERIENCE #2: Take in a performance at The Reif Center. Make sure to check out the Events Calendar before you arrive so you can be sure to purchase tickets ahead of the performance.

Day 2 Cultural & Historical Experiences


MEAL (Breakfast) Eat out at Country Kitchen

EXPERIENCE #2: Purchase admission and take a VIP Tour (that highlights the stolen ruby red slippers) at the Judy Garland Museum.

EXPERIENCE #3: Strolling around downtown looking at the beautiful art, shopping in the boutique style shops, and then grabbing a bite for lunch.

MEAL (Lunch) Downtown Grand Rapids has many options for places to eat & drink. Ledger and Ladle is an intimate setting that offers revolving menus.

EXPERIENVE #4: Trying your team skills by purchasing tickets to the Itasca Historical Society Escape Room. This is the perfect afternoon activity for two. And immersive experience that includes solving puzzles and riddles along with a twist of historic information.

MEAL (Dinner) Timberlake Lodge is the perfect place to have dinner for two in a cozy and comfortable setting that offers a wide variety of gourmet American food like fresh seafood and grilled to perfection steaks.

MEAL (Nightcap) The Tied Bar downtown offers a casual hometown dive bar setting to grab a nighcap.

Day 3 Scenic Biking Experience


On this final day, sleep in and take your time getting up, and enjoy a late breakfast somewhere.

Meal (Breakfast) at Dotties Cafe where you can get a homemade breakfast made to order.

EXPERIENCE #4: Tioga Recreation Area is the perfect place to enjoy mountain biking and hiking on trails that wrap around the Tioga Pit and overlooks Pokegama Lake. Tioga offers 25 miles of single track multi-level mountain bike trails and hiking trails that roll through the mixed hardwood and pine trees of a reclaimed mining area. Ardent Bicycle rents mountain bikes, helmets and other biking supplies.

EXPERIENCE #5: One more experience before you head home is to stop at the Pokegama Dam and walk across the dam to take an up-close and personal perspective of the mighty Mississippi River that flows right through Grand Rapids.
