Timber Tales of Lumberjacks

TIMBER! The sound that echoed throughout the forest in northern Minnesota at the turn of the 19th century when lumber barons, harvesting white pine, opened up Minnesota’s Northwoods to settlement. Join local author Susan Hawkinson as she tells the raucous and entertaining lumberjack and settler stories and the equally astounding tales of the Joyce lumber baron family from her co-authored book “Timber Connections: The Joyce Lumber Story,” a past Minnesota Book Award finalist. This one-hour program is appropriate for high school students and adults.

This project, brought to us by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or whole by a grant from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
