Logging Area Folksong in Northern MN

Musician, researcher, and Bemidji-native Brian Miller presents “Logging Era Folksong in Northern Minnesota.” Miller accompanies his singing with guitar and bouzouki (a double-stringed relative of the mandolin). He crafts rich new arrangements of traditional folk songs from the logging era including songs from the Grand Rapids area and others learned from 100-year-old recordings of lumberjack Michael Dean of Virginia, Minnesota.

Come experience colorful local history through music, historical photos and stories. Miller has presented on Minnesota folk song history at over 100 venues in Minnesota. He appears in a new documentary on Irish television on the history of Irish influence in Northwoods music and is a winner of the Parsons Fund Award from the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
