Pre-Holiday Grand Rapids Fishing Report
This pre-holiday (4th of July) Grand Rapids Fishing Report brought to you by Tom Neustrom, owner of professional guide service, MN Fishing Connections.
The weather has been outstanding and the fishing for several species has been good. Big Splithand, Big Winnie and Trout Lake have all been good for walleyes and it seems that early and late in the day has been the best times to chase them. Leeches and rigs have been the best choice but jigs and shiners are still catching their fare share also. Pokegama has been doing well in the evening and working the weed lines with crawlers and spinners has been best. Northern Pike fishing has also been good and with the new emerging weeds holding fish and giving anglers lots of action. Spider, Bass, Pokegama, and Big Winnie have been good choices for good northern fishing.
The bass fishing has been excellent of late with Smallmouth and Largemouth biting well. The spawn has been done for a week to ten days and the fish are cruising looking for a meal. On calm days try top water baits and watch for an explosive strike. Its very cool and exciting. Nedi Rigs, drop shot, wacky worms have all been working well and fisherman from all over the country have heard all about the great bass fishing the Grand Rapids area has. The lakes are numerous to mention but a few of the good ones are Wabana, Trout, Pokegama, Loon, Sand, and Little Moose. Bass fishing will continue to heat up and get even better in the weeks to come.
Next weekend will be a busy holiday affair, for celebrating our countries 4th of July, so get out and enjoy and most of all be safe. We look forward in seeing you in Grand Rapids, it’s in Minnesota’s nature.
