Grand Rapids Fishing Report 6-5-19

Matt Oste, client of Tom Neustrom, MN Fishing Connections, caught this nice walleye on a Grand Rapids area lake.

This week’s Grand Rapids Fishing Report brought to you by Tom Neustrom, owner of professional fishing guide service, MN Fishing Connections.
With the warmer weather of late the walleye bite definitely heated up and there has been good fishing on area lakes. Some of the best to try are Big Winnie, Moose, Bowstring, and Trout lake in Coleraine. A Mooneye jig and a shiner is working well and the walleyes are starting to be taken on a leech and a rig pretty consistently. For the trollers, shad raps fished in the evening have been producing on Pokegama and Sugar lake, Walleyes for the day fisherman are starting to move off shore and pay attention to sunken islands close to shore to start with.

Madison Christianson caught a nice crappie on a Grand Rapids area lake.

Crappie fishing has also been very good in the shallows on area lakes and that too will continue to be good. They are starting to move into spawning areas and can be taken on a slip bobber and a minnow fished in 2-5 feet of water. Bass fishing has also improved dramatically in the last week and smallmouth bass are starting to move into and occupy spawning areas. Bluegills are on the beds on several of the lakes and remember to release the larger ones and keep the smaller ones to eat. The fishing is heating up so get out and enjoy some of the early summer action.
