Introduction to Fly Tying

Join Minnesota Trout Unlimited for a workshop that will teach you about the different knots involved with fishing and tying flies and how each of those knots are used. It will provide an overview of the equipment used for fishing, and you’ll learn how to properly care for and maintain your equipment. An exciting aspect of this workshop is learning about the various bugs found in our local streams, and how to identify the species of insects that are part of the life cycle in our waters. By the end of the workshop, you will have learned to tie at least one (and possibly several!) fly that resembles and imitates the insects that will catch fish.

This workshop is for beginners, and students will leave the class armed with the knowledge necessary to construct any type of fishing fly.

Class size is limited to 15 people. All materials and tools provided. Must be 12 years of age or older. We’ll take a one-hour break for lunch at Noon.
