Deer Hunting in the Grand Rapids MN Area

Guest blogger, Jenny Foley, Deer Hunting in Itasca County, Grant Coordinator, MN Deer Hunters Association

Hunting has long been a tradition in Itasca County, going back generations for many families. With approximately 50% of Itasca County’s land open to public hunting, opportunities abound. An active logging industry keeps the forest healthy as well as creating fresh habitat in the form of regeneration and new growth for deer to congregate and browse. The perfect set up for hunters!

For the first time in 2019, the MN DNR has created a special youth hunt over MEA weekend in Minnesota. From October 17-20, 2019 youth age 10-17 can hunt over this weekend with an adult.  To learn all of the details about this year’s special youth deer hunt click HERE.

The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association is a non-profit organization that has called Grand Rapids home since its inception in 1980. Over the last 35 years, MDHA has been building hunting and conservation legacy through habitat, education, and advocacy. MDHA works to promote deer hunting through programs such as: Forkhorn Camps®, education and hunters’ safety, and our Hides for Habitat program. MDHA is proud to advocate for Minnesota deer hunters by producing public policy positions regarding wildlife and hunting and lobbying to promote those policies at the State Capitol.

With humble beginnings right here in Itasca County, MDHA has continued to call this area “home.” Our members are the heart of our organization, with each one contributing to the mission by sharing their voices, donating funds, and getting involved.
