Minnesota's Iron Range

Calumet, a city of just under 400, is located in southeastern Itasca County. U.S. Highway 169 runs through the city, connecting it to Grand Rapids, 15 miles to the west and Hibbing, 18 miles to the east. Calumet is one of the oldest mining towns on Minnesota’s Iron Range, tracing its birth back to 1909. Widely-known for its wonderful mixture of ethnic backgrounds — dating back to its earliest days — the city was host to “Johnny Doughboy Days” and “Miner’s Days” community celebrations for many years. Nowadays, Calumet is proud to be both located on the Mesabi Bike Trail and also the home of the Hill Annex State Park.
