This week’s Grand Rapids Fishing Report 6-26-19 brought to you by Tom Neustrom, owner of professional fishing guide service, MN Fishing Connections.
Summer is finally here and the fish are biting.. But hold on. Specie by specie what’s going on. We are about 2 weeks behind and with the predicted warm weather on out doorstep it will improve daily .
Walleye fishing continues to arrive at a good pace and as the bug hatches continue to happen make sure you start to move off shore rather than shallow opportunities especially during the day. As the weeds develop it will again be opportunistic to come back and search weed beds as they grow to their optimum.
Cabbage will hold walleyes throughout the season and fishing the weeds will multiply your options. Pulling spinners with a half of a crawler or a small chum will amaze you when fished over the top of weeds at 1.25 MPH. Small jigs with a leech or half a crawler can also be deadly at times. When a productive weed bed is found, put your Minnkota Bowmount on Spot Loc and fan cast the area. It can be a deadly combination when nothing else will work.
Bowstring, Big Splithand, Cutfoot, Jesse, and many other lakes that have consistent weed beds with produce walleyes throughout the summer months. Other areas to try are sunken islands off shore and long extending bars. Big Winnie has been a good producer of nice walleyes pulling leeches and crawlers.
Bass fishing has been good and for the most part the spawn is nearly over. Plastics, such as Juice Baits are producing large mouth and smallmouth fiched on a jig and the back end of several different chatter baits. Loon, Pokegama, Trout, Rice, and Deer have been good destinations for both species of bass. The warm weather is upon us and the fishing will be hot as the approaching weather change. Good Luck.
