The Fourth of July week Grand Rapids MN Fishing Report brought to you by Tom Neustrom, owner of professional guide service, MN Fishing Connections. The warmer weather of late continues to have a positive affect on the fishing.
Walleye fishing has been excellent on area lakes and it seems it will continue right through the weekend. Big Winnie, Trout Lake, Bowstring, Big Splithand, and Pokegama have all been turning out good catches of walleye on several different presentations. Jig and minnow, Spinners with bottom bouncers, rig fishing with creek chubs, crawlers, and leeches have all been putting walleyes in the boat. Many of the walleyes are moving off shore to their summer locations, but make sure you don’t abandon the weeds. Many anglers are enjoying good fishing along the edges of cabbage weeds with a variety of presentations.
Bass fishing has been very good and now that the fish are done spawning, they will be on the hunt for food. Smallmouth fishing is relatively still shallow and targeting weed edges and rock piles are places to concentrate on. On several are lakes it’s the best of both worlds with largemouth and smallmouth bass available. Try your luck on Pokegama, Trout, Deer, and Big Turtle for good opportunities on both species. Panfish have moved to the weedlines since the spawn and are very active of late. They too are on the hunt for a meal and once found can provide great action and terrific eating. Enjoy the 4th of July holidays and most of all be safe while on the water.
