Grand Rapids, Minnesota has a rich art culture to experience. Everyone is welcome at MacRostie Art Center in downtown Grand Rapids. Here are 5 Family Friendly to enjoy:
1. First Friday Public Art Walk Opening Reception
“First” is not only in the event name, but it is also the first thing to come to mind when thinking about local events you don’t want to miss- especially if you’re on a budget. The Grand Rapids First Friday Art Walk is a free arts-based event that takes place every month throughout the city of Grand Rapids, MN. Local stores, community organizations, and artists open their doors from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. to engage with the public, providing activities for all to enjoy.
At MacRostie, we debut two new collections in both of our galleries on this special evening. We welcome everyone to join us for our Opening Reception that includes live music, guided tours, snacks and beverages, and a live Q & A with our featured artists- all free of charge.
2. Second Saturday Family Create
Just one week after First Friday is…you guessed it…Second Saturday! Every second Saturday of the month from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. is Family Create Saturday at the MAC, thanks to support from Children First!
This free family-orientated art class boasts fun for everyone, ages four and up, and no class is ever the same. Last month we worked with local artist Lily Winter to help families make gorgeous hand-made jewelry to wear and take home. For April, we are excited to be working with GetFit Itasca’s program One Vegetable One Community to allow families to grow indoor veggies in decorative pots and compostable containers. Do you want to know what’s going on next month? Just give us a call or sign up for our email list to never miss an event! (Insert link: https://macrostieartcenter.org/).
3. MAC Mid-Monthly Artist Talk
Every third Wednesday of the month MAC passes the mic to a different local artist for our Mid-Monthly Artist Talk. This free event allows a selected artist from Grand Rapids or a surrounding community to take the stage and share their talent, stories, and inspiration with the public. All are welcome to the MacRostie Art Center from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. for light snacks and refreshments and the opportunity to meet our featured artist.
4. Gallery and Art Center Tours
Are you interested in a behind-the-scenes glimpse of MacRostie’s art collection, shop, and studios? First Friday isn’t the only time you can reserve a free private tour. Tours are always available during our business hours Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. All you have to do is call at least two hours in advance to reserve your spot.
