Edge of the Wilderness

The beautiful Edge of the Wilderness Area is home to many pleasurable opportunities that range from adventure to relaxation. Located in Northern Minnesota; the area is full of woods, water, wildlife, and wonderful experiences. There are thousands of acres of undiscovered, unspoiled, undeveloped natural beauty…access to hundreds of clear, pristine lakes… vast forests full of a variety of trees and wildlife species…numerous recreational opportunities…modern resorts and businesses providing friendly, personal services… The Edge of the Wilderness area caters to both relaxation and adventure.

Visitors to the area have many different choices for recreational adventure: birding, photography, golfing, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, tennis, hunting, camping, fishing (Walleye, Muskie, Northern, Crappie, Bass, Bluegill, Trout, and others), swimming, or boating in one of the 1,000+ lakes of the area. Many other recreational opportunities are also available throughout the EOW area.

The main industries of the area are Timber and Tourism. The area was branded as the “Edge of the Wilderness”, and today is home to a diverse population of seasonal and permanent residents. The area is widely known for its modern amenities, shopping, dining, businesses, lodging, outdoor opportunities, rural charm, and other unique features.

A DESTINATION FOR ALL SEASONS...

Each season brings a fresh look and new opportunities for adventure to the Edge of the Wilderness. During the fall, the Edge of the Wilderness National Scenic Byway (MN TH 38) dazzles travelers with an array of beautiful, radiant, fall leaf colors stemming from the variety of trees located along the route. In the winter, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and other opportunities offer a wide range of enjoyable, memorable experiences for the winter tourist.
